Tennis stars of the future!

THE 2011 Shreddies Parks Tennis NI scheme culminated in a fun event at Larne Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club recently with more than 50 aspiring six to 17-year-old tennis players taking part.

The scheme began at Larne Town Park and each enthusiastic participant was presented with a Shreddies Parks Tennis t-shirt on their first day, which was well received given the sun-drenched conditions enjoyed all week.

Budding tennis players travelled from outside of the borough to attend alongside local juniors and showcased their skills in games and activities.

The Parks Tennis NI programme held in Larne this summer is the largest in Northern Ireland to date and the scheme attracted many participants who had not previously had the opportunity to play tennis. Equipment was provided to those who needed it and thanks to Ben McAllister, Ian Galway (Larne Active Communities coach), and Sarah Russell and Lauren Smythe who provided coaching support.

Scott McKay was the lucky recipient of a free Larne Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club membership for the six-10 group and David Woods received free membership (11-17 years) in a prize draw held on the final day. Charlie Patterson won a free Tennis Summer Camp voucher (six-10 years) and Megan Roberts in the upper age group.

Parks Tennis NI acknowledged both Larne Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club and Larne Borough Council as lead partners.

Weekly tennis summer camps recommenced at Larne Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club began again yesterday Monday (August 15) at: 9.30-10.30am - Little Legends, 5-8 years; 10.30-11.30am - 9 to 11 years; 11.30am-12.30pm - 12-plus.
