Tennis tournament coming to St Columb's Park

WITH tennis set to be all over our TV screens again this summer, Londonderry's local tennis club is getting in on the action.

Queen's Club kicked off the grass court season and Wimbledon gets underway on June 21 for a fortnight of action, but forget all about that.

City of Derry tennis club will be running their very own Northwest Singles Tournament 2010, from Thursday, June 17 to Sunday, June 20, at St Columb's Park.

The club are hoping for a high number of entries from other clubs throughout the province, from as far away as Enniskillen, Omagh, Letterkenny and further afield.

City of Derry Tennis Club are hoping to add the Northwest Singles Tournament to the list of well known tournaments throughout the province.

Several well-known inter-county players will compete and the top players will be seeded.

Hopefully this should make for a competitive weekend of tennis to add the Northwest Singles Tournament to the top list of competitions, such as the Irvinestown tournament, Castlebar and the Letterkenny Doubles Tournament.
