Thatch get title defence off to a flyer against Tech Tornadoes

The Larne Pool League returned this week with three new teams bolstering the numbers to 16. There was also a new sponsor unveiled in Q Club.

Champions Thatch got the perfect start with a 12-3 win over the Tech Tornadoes. Gerry McCorry and Ryan McKillop pocketed trebles.

The Saints came from 3-1 down to win 10-5 over St Comgall’s and fellow league hopefuls Ibrox had a tough battle securing a 9-6 win over Gers, despite the efforts of Colin Wilson who had a hat-trick.

It’s been a summer of change for Q Pool with a new name, venue, captain and a host of new players. They faced he Blues and came back from 3-0 down to win 11-4. Captain Kenneth Hylands and Stevie Herron landed hat-tricks.

Joe Patton, Alan Corrigan and Stephen Peoples recorded trebles as The Feathers got their campaign of to a fantastic start with a 13-2 win over new boys Clonlee.

The Freewheelers, formerly Ulsterbus, made a welcome return but lost 10-5 to Micky O’Boyle’s Station Bar.

Another new outfit, Ruby’s Bar, lost 11-4 to Thatch Rockets with Jean McIlroy and Michael Douglas getting hat-tricks. No. 1 Reds also got off to a good start with a 9-6 win over Q Club.
