The Sean Show!

BIG Sean McLaughlin is used to pulling pints - so celebrating came easy to him on Sunday night.

The Eoghan Rua’s assistant coach and owner of The Springhill Bar in Portrush yesterday toasted the players and management on their “amazing achievement”.

Needless to say Sean was feeling a little bit worse for wear on Monday!

“It’s a fantastic, unbelievable achievement for everyone at the club. It’s a very proud day and it probably hasn’t sunk in yet.

“We have had many good performances over the years but never a championship winning one like yesterday.

“To win it like we did against opponents like Ballinderry and playing the kind of pure football like we did was just great.

“The match swung one way and then the other but the boys were determined to win and I’m very happy for them.”

Sean paid tribute to all of the squad and said the victory would catapult the club to a whole new level.

“They are amateur footballers but all of them act so professionally and their commitment is unreal.

“The victory is just great for all of the people involved in the club and those who have worked so hard down the years.

“It will really help the club for the future.

“We are lucky to have Sean McGoldrick who is the master planner and someone you can’t say no to.

“We have a great chairman in John Montgomery and our PRO Kevin Mullan and other great people involved.”

Sean has been at the club for 25 years and took up coaching after playing for 12 years.

“I was a bit nervous as the match approached but I was very, very confident we would win it.

“I felt that the boys would get the reward for all the hard work they put in and they did.

“Even when Ballinderry came back at them they wouldn’t throw the towel in and they gave everything to the final whistle.

“The achievement is great for the area and it has put Coleraine on the map.

“We even had people from Coleraine Football club ringing to wish us good luck, so everyone was behind us.”

Sean is now looking forward to a crack at the Ulster Championship.

“We will give it our best shot, that’s for sure. Once the boys pull on the jersey to represent the club they will battle for everything.”
