Once the draw for the matches was completed the first games could get under way and first up for the Grinders was Jerome Lenfesty who would face his nemesis from last year Mark Magee who beat Jerome in the individuals final last season which give Jerome a little more incentive to beat his opponent, which he achieved in superb style winning the match 2-0 and got the Grinders off to a great start.

The next match was between the two in form players in the league, Franky Soye of the Grinders and David Payne of the Legends, and it was the Grinders player Franky who destroyed his opponent David 2-0 to really pile the pressure on the Legends team being 2-0 down with only two more games to go.

Game three was between John Loughran and Paul Lenfesty, Paul had to win this game for his team to have any chance of getting the match into a playoff which was the best the Legends could hope for at this point, And he didn’t let the side down with a very impressive display from the ex international winning the game 2-0 with breaks of 65 and 58 in the process and gave the Legends team a glimmer of hope that they could maybe reach a playoff.

The last game was between Mr reliable Brian Murray and the youngest of the Lenfesty players Chriss Lenfesty and Chriss knew he had to win this game to take the Legends into a playoff otherwise the trophy would be going in the direction of the Grinders so the pressure was on both players at this stage.

Both Brian and Chriss shared the first two frames and it was all down to the last frame as Chriss got in first and accumulated well notching up a 30 point lead early on, however, the experience Brian has earned over the years means that he knows how to claw his way back in to a frame and that’s what he did eventually leading at one stage in the frame on the colours by three points. The deciding frame eventually reached a black ball fight and after a couple of shots each it was the Legends player who should have won the frame having had three chances to pot the black and everyone knows if you don’t take your chances in this game you usually get punished and that’s exactly what happened when Brian potted a quite sublime black tight along the black cushion under pressure to send the Grinders to victory and give them their first winners trophy of the season and an excellent victory over the Legends. Thank you on behalf of the Grinders and the Legends to the Coach Snooker Club for the use of the tables for the final.
