Stuart Laverty was back in a bit of form again following a lengthy sabatical, winning the BCC Super Fast 10 TT and Aaron Swan was first at the local Dunloy road race around Anticur.

Youth racers Andrew Allen and Shay Donley won at Strabane Lifford and at the Orwell races in

Dublin’s Corkagh Park.

This was all included in a week when the local senior Team riders were at the AmberGreen Tour of Ulster, an arduous event with 2 x 90+ mile stages and a final stage of 80 miles over the last weekend on difficult roads in Armagh, Tyrone and Derry.

This is all in preparation for the team travelling to Dublin to take part in the An Post Ras 8 day stage race with 7 of the stages over 100 miles in places like the Ring of Kerry and the Wicklow mountains.

To those of the readers not familiar with this International race, it has been won in the past by Tour de France winner Stephen Roche, Paris Roubaix winner John Degenklob won a stage into Bantry and World Champion Tony Martin was also a “finisher” and overall winner of the race in 2007.

Ballymoney Cycling Club’s honorary club member Stephen Gallagher won the race in 2008.

Next week’s newspaper report will feature the five young men going to mix it up with the professionals and some background information on them....Angus Fyffe recent was the winner of the first stage of the Tour of Ulster and 2nd on the last stage.

Also winning this weekends Tour of the Mournes where his team mate Aaron Swan was 8th.

Ryan Bankhead, Craig McAuley and Steven McAllister have all been in racing action and intense preparation for the tough and life changing experience that lies ahead of them.

This club 10 mile TT on the Portrush/Ballybogey road saw the North West Regional Interclub league as part of the event with 55 riders taking part in a race where the riders faced a tough headwind to the Portrush Rd roundabout at Biesty’s but enjoyed if that is the best word to describe the return leg to the finish.

1st in the Senior race went to Stuart Laverty, the fastest woman on the night was Claire McAvoy the youth saw a great ride by Andrew Robinson.

Up and coming events

This Wednesday evening there is a race with a difference...!

It is an Oz Pursuit on the Kirkhills Dervoock circuit, sign on from 6:15pm and racing from 7pm.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is just getting started to get an idea of what a TT and a Road race rolled into one is like.

Everyone is invited to come along and they will be made most welcome.
