THINGS ARE A BIT TUFF

NORTHERN Ireland goalkeeper Jonathan Tuffey is hopeful of signing for a new club sooner rather than later as the start of the new football season draws closer.

Twenty-three year old Tuffey, who at one stage was linked to a move to Scottish giants Rangers, is in talks with a number of clubs, believed to include Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Kilmarnock and English League 2 side Burton Albion.

Asked about his future Tuffey told the Leader, "I'm still waiting to get something sorted out. I've spoken to a number of clubs but for now I'm just stuck without anything.

"To be honest anything would appeal right now. It's a frustrating time but managers are still looking for players and I'm hopeful of getting a club soon.

"I'm just doing my own stuff for training and playing the odd game of five a side with my mates to keep fit.

"I'm not overly worried just yet though, there's plenty of interest and there's one or two offers on the table at the minute. Unfortunately there's a bit more too it than just putting pen to paper."

Another reason for Tuffey's eagerness to get signed up is Northern Ireland's forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifier in September.

Northern Ireland kick off their campaign away to Slovenia on Friday September 3 and the Banbridge man is desperate to be on the plane with manager Nigel Worthington's squad.

"It's always at the back of my mind and I have got to think of the international squad," he added.

"If I can get a club at a decent level then it will improve my chances - then it is up to me to do the rest."
