Thirds bow out with home defeat

Lurgan Thirds lost to Ballymena in the quarter-final of the Minor Qualifying Cup last Saturday at Pollock Park.

Batting first, Lurgan Thirds made an under par score of 120 all out with only Jonathan Hunter showing any form, making a well-played 32, including three boundaries.

Andrew Sands, Graeme Hunter and Shane Johnston were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Lurgan Thirds needed early wickets but these proved hard to come by. Jonathan Hunter bowled a fantastic spell finishing with 1 for 20 from 6 overs and was very unlucky not to have better figures as he beat the bat on numerous occasions. The other wicket takers were Callum Gibson (1-24) and Nathaniel Ferris (1-15) but Lurgan couldn’t curtail opener Healy who went on to a half century and led Ballymena to the semi-finals with a comfortable seven wicket victory.
