Thirds off to a flyer

Dromore 3's 24 – Portadown 4's 14

THE opening match of the season at a blustery Barban Hill saw Freddie Luke’s Thirds win a great tussle with Portadown.

With Portadown kicking two penalties in the first 10 minutes things looked ominous however the second quarter saw Dromore regroup and start the recovery with a fine try from second row forward Daryl Seawright following a period of prolonged pressure from the Dromore pack. Simon Houston converted to bring the half time score to 7-6 to Dromore.

New prospect Sammy Black opened his account in the second half running through a number of defenders some 20 metres out followed by a great second try set up by good hands from the evergreen Davy Russell rounding off what was a very impressive forwards display.

Dromore went down to 14 men with seven minutes to go following Davy Russell’s injury however they defended well and kept their noses in front with a late penalty from Simon Houston.

Team Manager Davy Russell was very happy
