Thirds pick up their game to hammer Mossley

THIS week saw Dromore Ladies Thirds travel to Jordanstown where they would play a promising Mossley side.

The match got off to a shaky start with Dromore having to defend an attacking Mosley side; however keeper Cathryn Cochrane prevented a goal with a strong clearance from the circle.

Dromore needed to pick up their game, which is exactly what happened. Jenny Moore gained possession of the ball in central midfield and drove up the pitch, intelligently passing the ball the Chloe Glover on the wing, who crossed the ball into the circle and found Ruth Ravey who slammed the ball past the keeper, giving Dromore the 1-0 lead that they had been craving.

Goals continued for Dromore with Nicole Laverty taking a quick free in to the circle, beating her player then striking the ball to hit the back board and take the game to 2-0.

Unfortunately for Dromore, Mosley came back fighting, beating the Dromore defence and with a dainty flick put the ball past the keeper, making the score 2-1.

After gaining possession on the right, Michaela Neill powered up the pitch winning frees against her opposition to cross the ball across the circle, narrowly missing the goal.

A quick turn over saw another goal for Dromore, with a quick free in from Nicole Laverty on the left side of the circle saw the score go to 3-1.

However the Mosley had a quick break and intelligently won a penalty corner. The initial shot on goal was saved by Cathryn Cochrane, and Rebecca Martin continued to clear a following rebound however the Mosley side eventually found the backboard, bringing the score to 3-2.

After half time Dromore were determined to keep out another Mosley goal. Throughout second half the Dromrore defnce of Cathy Wilson, Claire Elliott, Janine Davis, Nicole Clements and Rebecca Martin worked together to keep Mosley out of the circle.

With good linking play throughout the midfield the ball was passed up to Hayley Laverty and with good acceleration and skill was able to bring the ball into the circle and win a penalty corner, which was put just wide of the goal.

Patiently waiting for their next goal Dromore continued with the majority of the attacking play and eventually Ruth Ravey found the back of the net for the second time after a clever pass from Haley Laverty.

Player of the Match was given to Michaela Neill.
