BALLYMONEY Thirds secured their place in the next round of the cup winning their match against Ballymena 3-1 on Saturday.

As the first whistle blew, Ballymoney showed determination to win.

Unfortunately within the first three minutes Ballymena pushed a ball through into their attacking circle, which was tapped into the goal. One goal down, Ballymoney knew it was time to step up their performance.

Good defence from Ciara McGuighan, Sophie Spence, Emma Millar and Kate Ruddock did not go unnoticed. Ballymoney worked as a team and got the ball into the circle where Cara Ferguson placed the ball into the back of the net.

The score was now 1-1. Some word of encouragement and new tactics discussed at half time meant Ballymoney went out determined to win.

After endless attacking penalty corners, Ballymoney eventually found the net with Kate Ruddock striking the ball to Johanne McAllister who placed it in the corner of the goal. Ballymoney were now on a high and goalkeeper Danielle made some super saves.

Instrumental play by midfielders Johanne McAllister, Rebecca McPeak and Rebecca Martin meant the ball was easily passed up to forwards Emma Patton, Holly Fleming and Cara Ferguson who had many attempts on goal but it was a Ballymena own goal that made the final score 3-1 to Ballymoney.

The girls would like to thank the umpires, coach Lynne and everyone who supported the team.
