Thirds put Ballymena to the sword

Coleraine Ladies Hockey Thirds took to the new pitch at Rugby Avenue on Saturday to play Ballymena Fours.

Both teams started well but it was the visitors who had the first real effort on goal, the shot was deflected firstly by Pearl McCartney before the Coleraine keeper managed to turn it on to post and away to safety.

Coleraine where more determined after this and great work from the midfield players of J Gaston, R Adams and R McInnes led to a goal scoring opportunity, which was dispatched into the net by C.A Agnew.

This prompted Ballymena into life and they began to push on at the Coleraine goal but some great defensive work from H Bradley, U Harper, J McGillan and P McCartney held the visitors at bay.

Coleraine turned this pressure into attack with S Marshal linking up well with Agnew it wasn’t long before Coleraine where 2-0 up. As hard as Ballymena tried they couldn’t find a way past the Coleraine keeper in M.Budina.

The second half was mainly all pressure from Coleraine, who started to find bigger gaps in the Ballymena defence than before and it’s wasn’t long until Agnew had her hat-trick on the board.

Coleraine’s fourth of the day came from a brilliant solo effort by U Harper, who took the ball from her own defensive area and headed of down the right going past the visiting team with great control and footwork.
