THIRTEEN different winners in bumper night of Raceway action

THERE proved to be no bad luck associated with the number 13 at Ballymena Raceway on Friday evening where the CRH Designs sponsored fixture produced no less than 13 different winners!

The only driver to record more than one victory during the evening was Lee Pearce. The Englishman travelled all the way from Bromley in Greater London to compete in the 1300 Stock Car National Championship and departed Raceway with the title after a dominant display in his Honda Civic.

Another driver celebrating title glory was Curtis Greer. The Cullybackey teenager was crowned Group Two Lightning Rod Irish Champion for 2012, a title his father James also held back

in 2005!

In the other classes National Hot Rod star John Christie performed his own version of the Bionic Man to win World Qualifying Round 4 despite racing with a broken collarbone! Bangor’s Craig McConnell extended his recent fine form to capture the King of the North race in the F2 Stock Car class and local lad Michael McKendry recorded his first ever final win in a hotly contested Stock Rod feature race.

For full reports on each race plus great pictorial coverage, see this week’s Ballymena Times.

THIS WEEKEND

Racing continues at the Ballymena Showgrounds on Friday evening (September 21) when the National Hot Rods continue their World Qualifying campaign.

The new qualifying series reaches round 5 on Friday evening and has already produced some dramatic action. Defending Champion John Christie defied the odds to take the honours at Raceway last weekend despite racing with a broken collarbone and will be hoping to continue his climb up the points chart after a disastrous start to the campaign.
