Thomas is the winner of a competition organised by the Mail GAA writer Eugene Creaney which drew a sizeable number of entries from both Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils who attend the North Lurgan School.

The Clann Eireann player will compile a report which will appear in next week’s Mail and the youngster will also get the chance to interview Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney.

Tannaghmore teacher Kevin Creery said the response to the competition was excellent.

“All of the entries were fantastic and were of a very high standard. Picking a winner was extremely difficult, however I believe that Thomas deserved the chance to represent the school at the Armagh game and we are all looking forward to reading his report in next weeks paper.”

Thomas said he is up for the challenge. “I can’t believe I have won and to meet Kieran McGeeney and compile a match report for the Mail is fantastic.

“I don’t know how much sleep I will get on Friday night because I am so excited, but if Armagh win it will make my job a lot easier.”

Eugene Creaney said, “The entries were very well written, but the piece compiled by Thomas was particularly interesting, in it he described Armagh’s win in Ennis over Clare and talked about his favourite player Tony Kernan who scored two goals. Thomas has a flair for writing, on Saturday he will experience how the various outlets of the media work.”
