Thompson back for Irish Cup debut

PETER Thompson is back at Linfield and his first game will be against Donegal Celtic in the Irish Cup on Saturday, January 16.

The Blues agreed a loan deal until the end of the season with Thompson and his club Stockport County.

"We have been working on this for a number of weeks and we are thrilled to get Peter back. Goalscoring has been a problem for us this season, so to have someone like Peter back with us is a great boost," said club chairman Jim Kerr.

Fans will be hoping Peter be eventually tied up on a longer contract. "We will have to wait and see what Peter and Stockport want to do at the end of the deal, but we are just glad we have him on board for the rest of the season." Peter's contract with County runs until summer 2011.

With Windsor Park covered in snow and ice the home game with Glenavon will be off this Saturday and Peter's first chance to be welcomed back by the Windsor fans will come on January 30 against Newry.

In his final season at Windsor Park before heading accross the water Thompson scored 44 goals in 48 starts for the Blues.
