Three ladies teams reach quarter-finals

THE ladies’ Junior Cup, Junior Foursomes and Senior Foursomes all reached the quarter-finals on the ILGU inter-club matches.

On Sunday Sheena McStay’s Junior Cup team travelled to Ballybofey for the return leg, having won three out of five matches at home. They certainly weren’t complacent and knew the Donegal ladies would be well up for the battle. As expected the matches were all very close, in fact all went to the 18th hole but wins for Fiona McGrady, Sian Mulholland and Lynne Hanna sealed their place in the quarter-finals.

They now meet another Donegal team, North West, but this is played at neutral venue, Balmoral, on Sunday, 22nd July.

The Junior Foursomes team, captained by May Baxter, travelled to Armagh on Monday for their return match, having won all three matches at Lurgan. Again it was a nail biting finish but Katrina Bradford and young Maeve Cummins brought home the much needed win. Their neutral venue for the quarter-finals is Ballyclare where they face local rivals Edenmore. This match will be played on Friday, 27th July.

Bronagh McKavanagh’s Senior Foursomes team bagged their place in the quarter-finals at the end of last month beating a strong Massereene team. On Tuesday, 24th July, they head to local club Tandragee for their match against Ballycastle who are previous Ulster Champions.

Members would like to congratulate all three teams on their success to date and wish them good luck for their next round later in the month.

On Tuesday, 10th July, the lady members were playing for Mrs Nuala Beatty’s prize. With an effort of 39 points the winner was Eadaoin Ward.
