Three-way battle at the top of snooker league

Carrickfergus Golf Club ‘A’, Greenbank ‘A’ and St Comgall’s all share top spot at the top of the Larne and District snooker league, despite defeats for Saints and Greenbank this week.

Carrick secured a 4-1 home win over Larne Legion with Derek Newell, Gavin Baker (47), Ricky Bradley and Davy Wright all taking frames. Andy Lilly won the Legion’s only frame with a break of 44.

St Comgalls’ were away at Ballyclare Golf Club ‘A’, but lost a close game 3-2. Anthony McCorry and Ciaran OToole won the two frames for the Saints with Trevor Mairs, Neil McKelvey (52), and Darren Agnew secured victory for the hosts.

Greenbank ‘A’ went down 3-2 to Linfield with only Pete McCaffrey and Wayne Harper winning. The Blues’ successes came courtesy of Gary Rutherford, Billy Parke and Willie Stewart.

Latharna sit on 26 points despite losing 3-2 to clubmates The Point. Raymond Weir (21, 34) and Jim Jackson were both on song, with Aaron McKee, Gary McNeill and Steven Girvan winning for The Point.

Ballyclare Golf Club ‘B’ enjoyed a 4-1 win away at St John’s. Jim Taylor, Ian Wallace, B. Irvine and Ronnie West were in the swing for the Springvale Road men, with Damien Todd registering the only frame for the Saints.

M. McWilliams, Davy Irwin, Darren McNeill and Paul Wylie pocketed frames as Ballylumford defeated Ballyclare OB 4-1. Greenbank B ran out 3-2 winners at home to Carrick B with in-form Cecil Scroggie, Billy McNeeley and Hugh McMurtry on target. The Knockout Cup is own to the last four with the Pairs at the last eight stage.
