Three well-earned points for Seapatrick at Lisanally

SEAPATRICK visited Lisanally Rangers on Saturday in a Mid-Ulster Intermediate A League match hoping to gain three valuable points to stave off to push themselves further up the table.

The visitors started the brighter of the two teams when, in the opening minutes, Keith McVitty capitalised on a poor back pass from a home defender only to narrowly miss. From this chance, Seapatrick got a firm grip on the game and yet again McVitty came up with another chance only to see it greatly saved by the Lisnally goalkeeper.

In the 15th minute, the Village had a corner that was missed by the towering Martin Buchanan. From this, the home team broke fast and snatched the opening goal that seemed unlikely due to the start from both teams.

From the kick off the Village were determined not to be behind for long and some good play from Mark Watt led to chance for Liam McGarry, who calmly slotted the ball into the net only moments after going behind.

Then only minutes after scoring, McGarry was again put through on goal by a big kick up field from goalkeeper Kieran Maguire although he would narrowly miss on this occasion leaving the scores still even.

Seapatrick kept creating chances for themselves only to see them put just wide or well saved by the home keeper from Darren McGrath and the usual suspects McVitty and McGarry.

Towards the end of the half Darren McGrath cut back a good ball to the top of the box but Mark Watt could not keep his shot down and blazed it over. McGrath then took matters into his own hands and scored a good goal to leave the score at 2-1 going into half time.

At the start of the second half both teams had good chances to score but could not take them. Phillip Davidson put across a nice ball into the box but unfortunately there was nobody there to get on the end of it.

Failing to take these opportunities proved costly as Lisanally Rangers scored an equaliser from a corner.

Andrew Chambers was then brought off the bench and immediately had a good headed chance to put the visitors back in front but it was well saved. Damien McParland then took a free kick which was well held by the Lisanally goalkeeper. Five minutes from the end the Village put themselves back in front after a good through ball by Phillip Davidson made its way to Darren McGrath who smashed it home into the bottom right corner of the net.

Just after this one of the home team players hit a dangerous tackle on Stephen McGrath and earned himself an early bath. Seapatrick took advantage of this by wrapping up all three points when Martin Buchanan crossed a good ball for McVitty to finally get the goal he had been seeking all afternoon.
