Thrilling finish as Rock are first team to reach a final

Rock became the first team to reach one of the Charity finals after beating St Colman's Lambeg at a tie end in the semi-final last week.

They await their opponents with Eglantine due to meet Aghagallon in the quarter finals with Annahilt Parish awaiting the winners in the semi-final.

But, what a cup tie this one turned out to be. A the halfway stage St Colman’s were two shots ahead with Frank Agnew winning by six shots and Frank Cunningham pulling four back for Rock.

Lawrence Long scored a seven shots win for Lambeg, but Michael Reid’s nine shots success left the score level. A tie end was needed and Reid beat Gary McWilliams by two shots to give Rock victory.

Charity finals to be decided next month

The finals of the Lisburn Zone Charity Competitions are scheduled to be played next month and both competitions have almost reached, at least, the semi-final stage.

However, it has been decided the Cup and Rosebowl finals will not be played on the original dates. Watch this space for the new dates when they are decided.

The sponsors of this season’s competitions are Denis Wilson, Glenavy and Hyde Air Park, Crumlin and the competitions have returned to straight knock-out this time.

The charities to benefit from the collections at matches throughout the season are Lisburn Women’s Aid and Parents for Opportunities.

There is also an appeal from the Zone treasurer to the clubs, who should return the collections immediately after matches are played. Cheques should be made payable to IIBA Lisburn Zone.

Hillsborough and Ballinderry on course for Cup final

The final of the Lisburn Zone Cup final is likely to see another important meeting between Hillsborough Social and Ballinderry.

Social play Soldierstown in one semi-final and the other features Ballinderry against Priesthill.
