Thumping win for Third XV

BALLYMENA Thirds played Ballynahinch Fourths at Eaton Park on Saturday and played very well in winning by 57 points to nil.

Ballymena went on the attack right from the kick-off and had their first try in two minutes.

From a scrum near the visitors' line, Ballymena got quick ball and it was moved to Simon Ross who dodged a couple of tackles to score. A great conversion effort from Stephen Johnston hit the post.

It was all Ballymena but Ballynahinch had the odd foray into Ballymena territory and on a couple of occasions had penalty chances but they were wide of the mark.

Most of the game was spent in the visitors' half and in the 11th minute Ballymena went further ahead. From a scrum on half-way Ballymena moved the ball along the line and then Stephen Johnston found himself in the clear to score the try and conversion to make the score 12 points to nil.

Three minutes later the same scenario saw Johnston in possession but this time winger Peter Gregg cut inside and took the pass to score.

With about five minutes of the half remaining Robin Adair scored a try which Johnston converted to make the half-time score 24 points to nil for Ballymena.
