Tidy win for Ballymoney Seconds

Ballymoney II 2

On a beautiful October’s day Ballymoney welcomed a strong Ballyclare side to the Joey Dunlop Centre. With last week’s defeat still raw in their minds the 2nd XI were out to take all 3 points.

From the whistle it was obvious that both teams wanted the win. Minutes into the first half Ballymoney’s Alex Halliday had to leave the field to get treatment for a head injury. Her fellow defenders Lesley Davis, Clare Parkhill and Sarah Reid held strong until Alex’s return. With the defence re-united, and giving the midfield a solid base to work from, Ballymoney were piling on the pressure. The momentum continued and the Toon ladies created chance after chance and penalty corners but failed to get the ball over that line. After sustained pressure on Ballyclare’s defence, Ballymoney got on the score sheet with a goal from Olivia Kearney just before half time.

Ballymoney picked up the tempo in the second half taking free hits quickly with pin point passes, tiring the Ballyclare team. A well deserved second goal came when Laura McCurdy tucked away a perfect penalty corner.

The Toon ladies did not let up, especially midfielder Kathryn Knipe, who had a solid performance all over the pitch. The 2’s saw out the game strong playing great hockey and were unlucky not to have won the game by more. The team would like to thank their coach Diane Kirgan and Rob Harris for umpiring.
