Tiffen takes first prize at Lambeg

THREE players tied for the lead after finishing with 39 pts in last Saturday’s (August 18) stableford competition sponsored by Ritchie Gorman Kitchen Design, but it was Craig Tiffen (10) who took first prize after the count-back.

Craig didn’t get off to the best of starts with two bogies and a double bogie in the first three holes, but after a birdie at the next and a further four pars before the turn, he accumulated a respectable 18 pts for the front nine.

With single bogies at 9, 10 and 12, Craig scored par on the remaining six holes to come in with a magnificent 21 pts for the back nine and a total of 39 pts. Beaten into second place was Brent Eastwood (16) after the count-back when he scored 20 pts in the back nine. With four pars included, Brent got to to the turn on 19pts. A single bogie at the difficult 10th and another at the 12th was ok but pars at 11, 13 and 14 put him in prime position before disaster struck at index one 15, where he scored a triple bogie. Two pars out of the last three was not enough to take the winning spot but enough for the runner-up spot. Also on 39pts and beaten into third place was Peter Morrison (13). Peter came to the turn on 20pts for the front nine which included three pars and a birdie at the 8th. The back nine got off to a steady start with two pars, two single bogies and another birdie but just like Brent index one 15 was his undoing with a couple of shots out of bounds and a no score. He recovered well with three pars on the last three but was still not enough to take that first prize. Ian Jefferson won the Best Gross prize.
