Tigers end losing streak in style

Lurgan Tigers U13s losing streak came to an end after a thumping 30-14 win against a heavier Ballymena side, despite the dreadful condition of the pitch and some disputed decisions by the referee.

Lurgan dominated early exchanges and got their reward with a well taken try from Ryan Armstrong following great inter play between backs and forwards involving Joshua Abraham, Ryan Allen and Daniel Hannon.

The home team went ahead on 13 minutes, when poor Tigers tackling let their centre run 40 yards to score under the posts and this was duly converted. Thereafter the Tigers dominated the match with first half tries from Ben Davidson and second half tries form Jon Woods, Josh Richardson, Ben Davidson and Captain Tom Lavery. All of the tries came about through great handling from the Tigers squad.

Throughout the match, the Tigers retained the lion’s share of possession but a combination of good defence from our hosts, some unfortunate bounces of the ball and some poor final passes, meant they were not able to further capitalise on this dominance. Despite the numbers of subs coming on, the Tigers continued to ruck and maul well, with Alex Burns and Tom Lavery providing good line out ball.

The whole s quad continues to improve, with the forwards again proving they are a match for any pack in this age group.

The young backs continue to become more confident in their decision making and general play, ably marshalled by Joshua Abraham at out half.

Finally, the squad and coaches say farewell to Ryan Armstrong, whose family are moving home to Omagh next week.

Ryan has been one of the stand out players for the squad over the last two years. He will be missed by all of his team mates and the coaches not only for his play on the pitch but for his all round attitude.

The club again thank all of the parents and supporters who turned up in large numbers and once again gave the squad fantastic vocal encouragement. It means a lot to the players and coaches.
