Time running out to avoid the drop

WITH matches running out Lurgan are moving closer to the brink in their bid to avoid the drop from the top flight.

“We have given ourselves a mountain to climb,” said captain Peter Maxwell. “But we are not giving up. People outside the club may think we are dejected but we are not.

“We competed well last Saturday and had a good lbw shout against McMillan which we did not get. If had got it we could have beaten them.

“But the guys are sticking together and putting in the effort.”

Lurgan began their run-in last night (Wednesday) against Carrick in a Twenty20 style game after the originally league match was abandoned halfway through.

They then face a difficult task on Saturday when they travel to play Instonians.

Counting last night’s game against Carrick Lurgan have eight games left and realistically need to win five or six of them to survive.

Their team for Saturday should be along the usual lines.
