Tired Seconds fail to sizzle against Cookstown

SOUTH Seconds slipped to another tired home defeat when they lost to Cookstown Thirds at Laurelhill on Saturday.

Fielding a much changed line-up to previous weeks South looked disjointed from the start and struggled to get a hold of the game, never mind put any moves together that has characterized their play of previous weeks.

They did create a few chances though and were unfortunate not to go ahead when Paddy Cochrane and Rob Barnes combined well to draw a good save from the away keeper.

After a Cookstown move a ball was crashed into the D for the Cookstown forward to get the final touch and deflect the ball into the goal. The remainder of the half was something of a non-event and the sides went into the break separated by one goal.

The second half lacked rhythm from both sides as they looked to play out a drab affair but the away side did extend their lead after an excellent drag flick into the roof of the net from a short corner.

South managed to pull a goal back after a goalmouth scramble through Rob Barnes but unfortunately they did not manage to get the equalizer or create anything of real substance through a stubborn Cookstown defence.

The team will look to make quick amends for this disappointing result and performance when they entertain N.I.C.S on Saturday at Laurelhill.
