Todd takes the title in U17 Ulster Closed tournament

Todd Gowdy stole the headlines at the Ulster Junior Closed Tournament last weekend when he cruised to victory in the Under 17s without so much as dropping a game.

A real star in the making, he smash past all opponents in sight to claim the title, one step better than last year when he was runner up in the Under 15 tournament.

Lisburn were well represented in the most senior category, the U19s but they were all pipped at the post by Belfast Boat Club’s Thomas Abraham, who claimed a victory.

Andrew Smyth came in second place, losing out in the final to a strong opponent. Losing semi-finalists were both Lisburn Racquets lads with Lewis Kirk beating Stuart Quigg into third spot.

Also falling at the final hurdle was U15 player Aaron Lowry, who lost out the tighest of five-set finals to Andrew Paul Reaney.

Sam Gowdy too was beaten in the final of the Under 11 tournament by Yuv Pahuja.

Other Lisburn competitiors Helen Brown (U17), Zach Croskery (U15) and Chris Dumigan (U15) all played well in their respective sections.

Unfortunately, Harry Gowdy had to withdraw from the Boys Under 11 competition.

The club send their congratulations to all the Juniors who represented Lisburn Racquets Squash Club in the Ulster Closed. Congratulations too to their coaches Kieran and John Doherty, whose hard work is paying off.

Now the attention turns to the Ulster Senior Closed tournament this weekend. If they do half as well as the Juniors, they’ll do alright.
