Tom takes the honours at Brown Trout Golf Club

THE penultimate round of the nine week “Star Fuels” sponsored winter League at the Brown Trout was completed at the weekend.

With high scoring again, two players each returned 40 points. Tom Boyd (8) took the honours with a very steady round of two over par gross each nine giving him two 20’s.

The highlight of Tom’s round was a hat-trick of birdies at holes 8 9 & 10! Tommy McGowan (7) in second place had a great first nine played in level par gross yielding 21 points before adding 19.

Tommy recorded birdies at holes 6 & 18 but failing to score at the 10th. hole proved decisive. By far the steadiest player in the club Ronnie Milliken (4) opened with a two over par score giving him 18 front nine points before playing the second nine in one under for a further 21 to take the third prize on offer.

Highlights of Ronnie’s round were birdies at holes 9 the difficult 11th and the 15th. Twos were scored by R. Milliken (2) D. James T. Boyd R. Orr and T. McGowan.

On the team front Tom Boyd’s “Doubles” wrapped things up, with a team total of 78 with R. Orr adding 38 to Toms 40.

Team “Phurnacite” earned five league points scoring 76 points with J. Logue and Sam Reid each returning 38 points. Team “Paraffin” with 74 points earned four league points with M. Torrington adding 35 to team captain R. Milliken’s 39. Team “Burnglow“ just a point back on 73 points were awarded three league points with T. Cupples adding 33 to T. McGowan’s 40.

“Captains Coal” scored a team score of 71 by D. James 36 and team captain J. Kelly 35. Team “Anthracite” could only manage 60 points ending up last.

With only one week to play “Doubles” proved to be the in form team and are the winners of the League with an unassailable lead of twelve points.

Three teams are fighting it out for second and third places in the final week. Team positions going into the last week are as follows: “Doubles” 43 points “Paraffin” 31 “Captains Coal” 30 “Phurnacite” 27 “Burnglow” 24 and “Anthracite” 13.
