Toon see off the big boys to lift cup

A BALLYMONEY Youth Academy Under 13's select side won an inaugural tournament in Ardoyne on Sunday of last week.

The local lads battled throughout the tournament and saw off much-fancied sides to lift the Belfast City Council backed competition.

The Toon got underway with a 2-0 victory over Ardoyne courtesy of goals from Connor Grundon and Kieran Neill and built on this with a 4-0 win against Newington thanks to goals from Dessie Kearney and Lewis Magee.

Ballymoney were edged out 1-0 by Maiden City but got their revenge against the North West side in the final by winning 4-3 on penalties.

The game had went to spot kicks following a 1-1 draw in which Josh Elliott notched a goal.

Barton, Convery, Neill and Brown scored from the spot and the cup was secured thanks to world class saves from Lewis McIlveen in goal. Well done lads!
