Toon set for derby clash

Ballymoney Rugby Club will lock horns with arch rivals Coleraine this Saturday.

The match is one of the most hotly anticipated sporting fixtures in the local calendar and this weekend’s tussle is sure to be as explosive as ever.

Ballymoney went down to Donaghadee on Saturday and will be desperate to get back to winning ways against their derby rivals.

Ballymoney coach Jason Taggart said: “We had a number of changes on Saturday but I wasn’t worried as everyone in the starting team are experienced squad members.

“It did take some time to get the set piece going but when we got quick ball it worked well.

“The wind was also an issue and didn’t really let our young exiting back line run the ball. The first half we were maybe a bit nervous and didn’t take the ball at Donaghadee enough but were happy to defend.

“Generally we did defend well but just a few lapses of concentration allowed them the chance to score, which is all it takes at his level.

“Second half like last week we really took it at them and looked dangerous. All in all I off course would have loved the win but to come away from home against the league leaders and run them close and get the losing bonus point was a good result in some aspects.

“It was an enjoyable game for the spectators to watch and it was good to see a large number up from Ballymoney.

“Next week is the derby against Coleraine and it is when form goes out the window.

“I just hope the weather allows for a running game for both teams’ sake. We will have to see how the injuries fare up this week but I hope we can get back to full strength.”
