Top level table tennis comes to Lisburn

An exciting new partnership with Northern Ireland property company Douglas Huston has just been announced by Table Tennis Ulster for a three day festival of table tennis, the Douglas Huston Ulster Open.

This event, attracting entries from the UK and Europe, is for senior and junior players, and will take place at Lisburn Racquets Centre from 27-29 November, with table tennis played at its highest level.

Building on the success of the first ever combined Ulster Open last year, the entries are really hotting up.

Already entered are the Irish Team fresh from their recent successes at the Senior Six Nations just two weeks ago in Lisburn where the Irish trio of Paul McCreery (Saintfield), Ashley Robinson (Clogher) and Gavin Maguire (Dublin) took an impressive team silver, beating England by a narrow 3-2 margin.

They went down in the Final gold medal match to old adversaries Scotland, a close match featuring Gavin Rumgay, famous for his wild celebrations in Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014. Rumgay is also 2015 Six Nations Singles Champion and has also already entered. He will be keen to take the title this year after falling to Czech Miroslav Horesji last year.

Latvian former International Vladislavs Agjuranovs, now based in Dublin, will be hoping to move a step closer to the Men’s title he is so desperate to win. A

Full-time player Welsh No 1 Charlotte Carey will be playing this event for the first time, and should surely be hot favourite for the Women’s Title, although Ashley Givan – who had a close 5 set encounter with her in the Team Event at the Six Nations, will be out for revenge. The rest of the Irish Women’s Team are all entered, including UK School Games Champion Rebecca Finn (Carryduff), and each of them will be out to get their hands on the prestigious Douglas Huston Ulster Open title.

Spectator entry to this spectacular will be free over the three days.

The Senior Men’s and Women’s Ulster Open Finals will be held on Saturday evening with Junior Open finals on Sunday.
