Top martial artist staging local seminar

ON Saturday 5 June one of the most exciting Martial Arts events ever held in Northern Ireland will take place in the Coleraine Leisure Centre.

The event is being hosted by the Chujo Karate Association.

International Bunkai Jutsu Coach Mr Iain Abernethy will pass on his experience and skills to those attending this one off special.

Mr Abernethy is a 5th Dan Black Belt with the BCA and is recognised Worldwide.

His speciality is teaching the practical applications contained in kata.

The techniques he teaches are realistic and can assist any person to attain a high level of self defence expertise.

The seminar is open to and suitable for, all styles and levels, of Martial Arts.

Those attending his seminars usually have a karate, Judo, Ju Jitsu, Boxing, Wrestling, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, etc background. The door is open to all interested Martial Artists.

Just prior to arriving in Northern Ireland for the Coleraine LC Seminar, Mr Abernethy will arrive back from Canada where he has been coaching for three weeks.

The Coleraine seminar is in two parts. The children’s section will be held in the Minor Hall from 10.30am to noon.

The children’s seminar is already fully booked.

The senior section will take place in the Main Hall from 1pm until 5pm.

To date 42 people from various Martial Arts backgrounds have pre-booked their place.

A limited number of places can still be catered for, but these will be on a first come first served basis. A deposit can secure a place on the seminar.

Martial Arts uniforms can be worn, or casual clothing, if so preferred.

Attendee’s are requested to be ready before 1pm start.

Coleraine Borough Council has given grant assistance to help finance the event.

The Chujo Karate Association and the local karate club based in the Coleraine LC are grateful to the Council for their generosity. The cheque was presented to CKA Chairman Mr Dan Redmond. Mr Redmond is the main organiser of the seminar.

On Friday 4 June Mr Abernethy along with others will be the examination panel when nine Chujo Karate Association members will be tested for the coveted Black Belt.

Amongst this group will be Robert McCracken from Castlerock.

Robert will be aged 75 years old on the date of his Black Belt examination. He was recently featured in local and National newspapers. Since beginning karate he has been a member of Coleraine LC karate club.
