Top performance from Brady at Ballyboley

The East Antrim Harriers Trail Series started again last Tuesday evening and Larne Athletic Club was out in force with no less than 33 runners participating.

Held on gravel tracks within Ballyboley Forest, the 4.2-mile race took place in perfect conditions and despite the hills, all seemed to enjoy the event.

Rhonda Brady gave the top performance on the night for Larne AC, winning the ladies’ race after catching the leading lady at around three miles and storming home to win by 11 seconds. Her time was 30:00 and she finished in 21st place overall.

First home for the men was Martin Agnew, with a superb fifth-place finish and a time of 25:27, to give him a third place position in the Open category.

A regular to the Forest Series, Andy Gregg finished in seventh to achieve first place in the Vet45 category. Martan Keane was next in 15th place (27:30) with Ian Brennan in 20th (29:59) taking second place in the Vet45s. Bobby Boal was 22nd (30.10), Bert Shaw, 25th (30.19), Dan Magill, 27th (30.34) and Alan Lockington, 33rd (32:14).

Emmett Woods returned to the red vest with 35th place and a time of (32:32), while Susan Lambe was second Larne AC lady home in 42nd overall (34:16), giving her a second place in the Female Open category.

Andrew Beattie was 47th in 34:51, Alison Magill, 48th (34:52) and last year’s Female Vet50 category winner, Bernie Regan, staked her claim to the Vet 55 prize this year, winning the category in 49th place overall and a time of 34:53.

Next for Larne AC and all running well were Jim Evans, 55th (35:43), Glenn Mann, 59th (36:24), Kellie Connor, 61st (37:18), Gillian Given, 62nd (37:20), Robin Alexander, 64th (37:53), Charlene Robinson, 65th (37:54) and Kirsten Montgomery, 68th (38:32).

Erin Beattie, in 70th place, was first Under-20 female finished with a time of 38:36. Emily Boal was next in 73rd place (39:10), Marty McKay was 74th (39:20), then Helen Kane, 77th (40:37) and Geraldine Hastings, 78th (40:59).

There then followed a number a Larne AC runners in succession with Ashleigh Gaston, 80th (42:13), Michele Woods, 81st (42:18), Amanda Wood, 83rd (43:35) and Irene Beattie placed as second Female Vet 50 in 84th overall and a time of 44:11.

Laura Brennan was second Under-20 Female in 85th place (44:32) with Linda Moore, 86th (44:36). Margaret Ferguson found the Ballyboley course to her liking with 89th place and a time of 53:32.
