Top trio to lead Ballymoney back to Q1

Ballymoney Rugby Club have sent a strong sign to the other teams in the Qualifying 2 league that they don’t intend to stay there for longer than one season.

The Kilraughts Road outfit have worked tirelessly since the end of the season to leave themselves in the best position possible to make an assault on the league campaign and get back where they belong in 
Qualifying One.

After the role of coach was vacated by mutual agreement between the club and Jason Taggart, the search began for a suitable replacement and not one, nor two but three top guns were drafted in.

First to join the men from the Toon was forwards coach James Carson is a former player and captain at Ballymoney. James has been playing senior rugby at Ballymena and will bring the experience and professionalism of playing at senior level.

Senior backs coach is Richard Beggs, well known and respected both as a player and coach. Beggs comes with plenty of experience and will help develop the club’s backline. Richard has played for Ulster and Irish U21s, Ulster and Irish A’s, London Irish U21s, Firsts, Seconds, Ballymena, City of Derry and Coleraine. As a coach he is Level 2 IRFU qualified coach, he was Coleraine 1st XV head coach and Coleraine Inst 1st XV head coach, reaching three schools cup semi finals in five five years.

The third member of the team is Chris Cochrane. Despite only being 26 years of age Chris has been forced to cut short a very successful career due to injury. He has an impressive pedigree have started out as Coleraine Inst 1st XV captain. He also played at the Ulster Academy and for Ulster and Irish U20s,

With a number of coaching sessions already in the bag, there is no doubt this talented trio will help the players at Ballymoney Rugby Club develop to their highest potential. Players already know they are getting a high standard of coaching and that an exciting new era is beginning at Ballymoney.

With such a high calibre of coaching team on board it shows heights that Ballymoney are aspiring to reach this season.”
