Top-twenty finish for Beattie in Slemish Challenge

Three runners from Larne AC made the short journey to Ballymena to run in the Slemish Challenge on Saturday. Father-and-daughter duo, Eddie and Brommely Finn opted for the 10k distance, while Andy Beattie tackled the even more challenging half-marathon.

Brommely Finn finished strongly with her trademark sprint, pipping her dad by three seconds. Brommely’s time was 1:11:24 with Eddie finishing in 1:11:27.

Andy finished the Half in 20th place in 1:55:27.

Emmett Woods travelled to Springwell Runners’ 10k charity race in aid of the Boom Foundation. He completed the course in 43:05.

Meanwhile, two Larne AC runners took part in the Dublin Half Marathon at Phoenix Park on Saturday.

Wayne Morrow showed he’s back on form as he clocked 1:19:40 and came 56th overall. Pat Blake, racing for the first time in Larne colours ran a very commendable 2:13:58.

Parkruns

The club had representation in parkruns at Queen’s and Larne. Bill Guiller was a first-timer at Queen’s and had a strong run, finishing in 26.57.

There was success at the Larne parkrun with members filling five of the first six places.

Martin Agnew led the way, finishing first in 18.05, followed by Andy Gregg in second place with a new personal best (pb) of 19.26.

James Topping was fourth in 20.10, Ian Brennan fifth in 21.32 and Aaron Mulvenna sixth in a new pb of 22.12.

Gordon Bell also had a pb and finished in 23.47 and Ashlynn Rodgers, accompanied by dad Gabriel, finished as first lady in 24.39 (pb). Erin and dad Andy Beattie were next finishers in 26.55, followed by Laura Brennan in 31.42. Karen Robinson registered a new pb with a time 32.13, and Geraldine and Rebekah Hastings were just behind in 32.23. Irene Beattie finished in 33.30 and Davy Henderson in 46.54.

Fallows

Andy Gregg finished 13th in the recent Fallows mountain race, clocking a time of 1:35:12, a position which should see him finish as third Vet45 in this year’s NIMRA Championship.

Bryan Magee ran well for much of the race, but unfortunately had to pull out with a hamstring injury before the last big climb.
