Torrington top at Brown Trout

THE McBride Cup was the opening competition of the new season at the Brown Trout held over the weekend.

Despite players returning to their frozen handicaps after the winter season scoring was comparatively low. The winner Maurice Torrington (14), after the worst possible start, failing to score at the opening hole, recovered well to open with 19 front nine points and added 21 for a total of 40 ending his round in style with a birdie at the 18th. hole!

Taking runner/up prize with 39 points Donal Mulholland (2) got off to a flying start with birdies at the 1st. 4th. and 5th. holes to cover the front nine in two under par yielding 21 points and proceeded to play the second nine in one over for a further 18 finishing off in style with another birdie at the last. Two players returned 38 points each and after the tiebreak William Pyper (14) with nines of 19 points each edged out Malachy Laverty (14) with nines of 20 and 18. The twos kitty was shared by M.Torrington, D. Mulholland (two) and Ronnie Milliken.
