Tough start for Roesiders

LAST season's Billy Henderson Properties Ltd Senior One joint champions Limavady start this year's campaign away from home as work at the John Hunter Grounds continues and because of that all rounder Andrew Riddles believes life is going to be even tougher this year for the Roesiders.

But Aggie remains upbeat that he and his team-mates can produce their usual good end of season form in the second half of the year.

“It’s going to be a tough one because we have lost one or two players and our ground isn’t ready yet, so our first six matches are away from home,” he said.

“Because of that it’s going to be a hard start to the season but we have a good bunch of fellas and hopefully we can all gel together and hopefully in the second half of the year we can do what we always do and that’s have a good run at the end of the season.

“This will be my fifth season with Limavady, but I struggled last season as I broke my thumb during the season and hopefully I can have a better one this year.”

The ex-Ireland A international also feels that Limavady will not just be aiming to retain the Senior One title, but they’ll also be looking for other silverware this season.

“Obviously the league is number one but it’s always nice to do well in our cup competitions.

“We went so far in the All Ireland Cup last season that I think we want to try and win it this year, we want to make a statement that North West cricket is still here, so it will be down to the top five or six batsmen and then it’s down to the striker bowlers to perform every week.”
