Tough tests for the U11s

Damolly Cubs 3

THIS would probably be the U11's toughest test against the league leaders and ‘Slane knew they would have been up against it.

From the start they were under pressure and the left winger cut in and blasted past Bready in nets.

Joel Hayes and Ryan Sloane were making more of an impact in midfield and the balance of play was equal. Just before the break Jordan Davis broke clear from his defender to fire in a snap shot but the keeper saved well. The next goal would decided the outcome and after a Cub's corner, Crawford failed to clear under pressure and a rebound shot just squeezed in.

‘Slane kept battling with Wilson putting in some strong tackles. He managed to find David Baxter running in and his shot could not beat the well experienced keeper.

Pushing up looking something out of the game, ‘Slane were caught in the break and the Cubs knocked in the third to finish off the game.

Best for Slane - David Baxter.

Brookvale 1

Trying to forget about the first match, ‘Slane started brightly with Sloane and Wilson spreading the ball neatly on both flanks. The good play paid off with Joel Hayes breaking through to fire into the corner to go one up.

Playing more like a team, ‘Slane piled on the pressure and Wilson picked out Sloane who made space to blast in the U11's second goal.

After the interval, a good clearance from Brookvale caught out Reid in defence and the striker gave Bready no chance to close the gap by one.

Keeping their heads high, Crawford broke down the right and picked out Davis and his goal-touch did not desert him as he made the game safe with ‘Slane's third of the day.

Keeping the ball and forming a good partnership, David and Reid in defence played out the game and a more satisfying display.

Best for ‘Slane - Joel Hayes.
