Toughest testyet for Armagh

Armagh will face their toughest game so far this season when they host Donegal in the McKenna Cup second round tie at the Athletic Grounds on Sunday at 2pm.

Donegal boss Jim McGuinness will be keen to get his side back on to a winning footing following a defeat against Tyrone last weekend.

With only one team certain to qualify from each group in the competition a defeat for Armagh would be out of the question considering that Paul Grimley’s side have to travel to Omagh next Wednesday night to face Tyrone.

Donegal boss McGuinness suggested that his side “had run out of steam” against Tyrone, but the former All-Ireland champions will be better for the outing and would be strong favourites to topple Armagh on Sunday.

Armagh will again be without the Crossmaglen players who are currently on holiday but assistant manager Kieran McGeeney is expected to be on the touchline having missed last Sunday’s win over Queens University.

With the Malone Road men playing Tyrone, Armagh will again be without the services of Aaron Findon and Ruairi Grugan, but the county would see a sustained run in the McKenna Cup competition as being crucial in the build up to the National League which begins in February.

A sizeable crowd is expected on Sunday, but not all the fans were happy with the £9 entry fee into last weekends game.
