Track and field success for Academy

THIRTEEN Ballymena Academy pupils competed in the recent Ulster Athletics Championships at Antrim Forum.

There were some outstanding performances on the day resulting in the following medals being won:

Roseanna McGuckian (year 9) won the Minor Girls long jump and 100m.

Eddie Kosch (year 10) was second in the Junior Boys 100m and third in the long jump.

Heather Carson (year 11) won the Intermediate Girls long jump and was second in the 300m.

Hannah Johnston (year 11) was second in the Intermediate Girls high jump.

The year11 Girls relay team consisting of Heather Carson, Hannah Johnston, Shannen Smyth and Zara Thompson were third in the Intermediate Girls Relay

This means that Eddie Kosch, Heather Carson and Hannah Johnston all qualify to compete in the Irish Schools’ Championships in Tullamore on Saturday, June 5.

On May 18, 36 pupils competed in the NEBSSA Athletics Finals at Antrim Forum.

Once again, there were many outstanding performances on the day resulting in the following trophies being won by our athletes:

Overall winners in U12 Girls, U13 Boys and U15 Girls age groups.

Overall 3rd place in U13 Girls and U14 Boys age groups.

Overall Girls Runners-up over all age groups.
