Treasurer Dowds is on the money

IT was Seniors’ Day at Ballycastle on Saturday with all competitors over the age of 50 taking part in the Mowbray Cup and on a blustery day it was the Honorary Treasurer, Gerard Dowds, who took the honours with a fine forty points off his 12 handicap.

Gerard was 3 points ahead of his fellow Dunloy man, Roland Kearns (12), who recorded 37 points to take second place.

In Section 1 Harry Sheehan (6) recorded an eagle 2 at the sixth on his way to winning the prize with 36 points while in Section 2 Finn McGarry topped the pile with 35 points off his 16 handicap. Sean McLean (22) took the Section 3 prize on 36 points.

The subsidiary competition for the under 50s was won by Oran Kearney (18) with 39 points from Owen McCloskey (9) also on 39 and Conleth McCaughan (8) third with 39 as well. Fourth place went to Colin Campbell (12) who scored 38 points.

Sunday’s Stableford was a high scoring affair with James McNeill scoring 45 points off his 13 handicap, Rory Bonnar (17) in second on 43 points and Niall McGarry third on 42 points playing off 11. One man who was very happy on Sunday was Lawrence McQuillan who had a hole-in-one at the thirteenth.

Next Saturday members will compete for the McGildowney Cup while on Sunday the Marie Curie Stableford Charity Competition takes place, including a Long Drive and Nearest the Pin Competition.

Members are also reminded that the first round of the Club Knock-Out Competition must be played by Friday 10th May and players should arrange matches as soon as possible.
