Treble joy for Strabane men

STRABANE won everything at Donegal on Saturday, even the draw for the bottle, with the firsts securing a 24-17 victory and the seconds running out 33-6 winners.

The First XV had a great first half against old foes Donegal.

Stuart Hamilton opened the scoring with a well worked try, converted by Jeff Mealiff, who followed this up with a well taken penalty.

Continual pressure on the Donegal line led to a five metre scrum. Aaron Cummings lifted from No 8, drew the cover and offloaded well to supporting flanker Eddie McCrea, who capped a “Cilento Man Of The Match” performance with a score under the posts.

That was just before half-time and left the score a comfortable 17-3.

Donegal hit back in the second half. Strabane were unable to clear their lines and the big home pack trundled over for a couple of scores.

A fine break by the winger Stevey Campbell led to a try for outhalf Brian Allen, Mealiff again converting.

This was enough to secure the victory and make it two wins out of two for the new boys in section three.
