Tribute to officials and volunteers from Armoy Clerk of Course

FOLLOWING a successful Race Day at Armoy on Saturday, Clerk of Course Bill Kennedy paid tribute to everyone who helped make the second Race of Legends a hugely memorable event.

“After a miserable and rained off practice session on Friday we were delighted that Saturday proved perfectly dry and at times sunny giving us the opportunity to catch up on additional practice before a lunchtime start for our 10 race programme,” he said.

“I would like to wholeheartedly thank all our club members and volunteers and in particular our hard working and diligent Management Committee.

Volunteers chalked up a huge number of hours preparing the course and the pits/paddock area for Race Day and were also up bright and early on Sunday morning to clear the circuit. Indeed by 4pm on Sunday no-one would have realised a national road race had taken place the previous day!” explained Bill.

Bill also went on to thank all race officials, the MCUI medical team, PSNI officers and Moyle District Council who all played key roles in ensuring both Practice and Race Day passed off smoothly and safely.

“I would also like to thank our main sponsor Coleraine Skip Hire & Recycling and especially MD Packie Laverty and also all our race and ancillary sponsors,” he said.

“Without their assistance and financial support the races simply would not be possible. We had an excellent line-up of quality riders on the grid and we should also thank competitors and their teams for all their work and preparation.”

“Thanks must also be given to the media who generated excellent coverage both during the build up months and following Race Day itself and of course to all our enthusiastic spectators who lined the three mile course.

“Undoubtedly the event attracted a larger number of visitors than in our inaugural year and included fans from countries such as Germany, Czech Republic and France as well as England and the Isle of Man.

“The Club would also like to pay tribute to local landowners and residents located round the course. Their patience and support is very much appreciated and we will continue to work closely with them in the future.”

Reflecting on the course and the new chicane Bill commented, “Whilst there were rider concerns about the newly installed chicane at our Practice Session Riders’ Briefing, there were no complaints on Race Day and as organisers we were pleased at the outcome and believe the chicane is an important safety improvement.”

“Whilst we were only able to hold the Armoy leg of our newly introduced Cross-Border Championship due to inclement weather at Kells in July, the Club believe the partnership is a significant one and the Championship races this year, backed by Adelaide Insurance Services and Coleraine Skip Hire, will develop year on year. Again I would like to thank Sam Geddis from Adelaide and Packie Laverty from Coleraine Skip Hire for supporting these races which were won by Keith Amor, Ryan Farquhar and Dean Harrison. We also appreciate the invaluable help and support of Kells Club Clerk of Course and Race Secretary, Lester and Aileen Ferguson.”

“Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club has received many good wishes and congratulations following Race Day and we look forward to building on our achievements to date and further improving our Race of Legends in 2011.” concluded Bill.
