Trio bag first places at Mid Antrim 150 Races

Fantastic rides by Tommy Henry, Rodney Patton and Paul Robinson ensured glory returned to north Antrim after the racing showpiece in Clough.

Rodney Patton got off to the best possible start by bagging his first-ever road race win in Saturday’s starter ride.

He won the Hugh Fitzsimons Electrical Contractor/Clough Vivo Senior Support race after a close battle involving Ballymena’s Sam Wilson, Richard McLoughlin and Coleraine man William Hara.

The success for Patton did not end there as he took a third podium spot in the Peoples Race, the Junior Support.

Like Patton, Armoy’s Tommy Henry also savoured his first road race win on Saturday. In the Robert Logan Hardware Junior race, Henry was too quick for Barry Davidson, who was riding a little Moto3 Honda.

Not having the outright power of a full blown GP250, it wasn’t long before Tommy Henry went past into the lead, and held on to take his first road race win.

Earlier Ballymoney’s Paul Robinson and Seamus Elliott were forced to retire after getting good starts.

Not to be outdone by his north Antrim riders, Ballymoney’s Paul Robinson completed a memorable day for the local racing fraternity.

In the 125GP he capitalised on Sam Wilson’s decision to start on full wets.

Robinson took the lead and pulled away on the now dry track, to win by 5.5 seconds. Ballymoney’s Seamus Elliott finished in third place. In the Ballymena Borough Council/Cleaning Doctor 250/350 Classic race Ballymoney man Alex McVicker was third.
