TRIO NAMED IN NI SQUAD

LOCAL footballing eyes will be turning their attention to the Umbro Quadrangular Tournament which gets underway tomorrow (Wednesday).

And three local footballers will be taking part in the tournament after being called up by Northern Ireland Junior boss Harry McConkey.

Banbridge Town's Jeff Brady and Timmy Grant have been called up to the squad at the last minute while Loughgall's Ryan Moffatt was named in the initial squad.

Both Grant and Moffatt have played in these tournaments before but for Brady it's the first time he has been picked to represent his country at this level.

"I'm delighted to be in the squad," said 'JB'. "It's a real honour to be able to pull on the green shirt and I hope that I get a bit of game time during the tournament.

"It'll be good to play a couple of games at the Town too because they're the club I've played for since I was eight years old except for a couple of years at Portadown and Glenavon so that makes it a wee bit more special.

"Timmy's in there too and he has a bit of experience with those boys and knows what to expect so it's good to have another representative from the club. "And of course we both know Pixie (Moffatt], he's been having a great season with Loughgall. Hopefully that will come through for the international team too."

The event kicks-off on Wednesday April 21 when Northern Ireland will take on Scotland at Drumaness Mills; and the Isle of Man will play the Republic of Ireland at Rathfriland Rangers (both games kick-off at 5.45pm). Admission into the game at Rathfriland is 4 and 2 for concessions.

Then on Thursday April 22; Crystal Park will be the venue for the Northern Ireland v Republic of Ireland game; with Killyleagh YC hosting the Scotland v Isle of Man game (both matches kick-off at 5.45pm).

The final games of the tournament will take place on Saturday April 24 – Northern Ireland v Isle of Man at Drumaness Mills and Republic of Ireland v Scotland at Banbridge Town (both games kick-off at 2.30pm).
