Trio of Judo coaches set to pin down awards

THIS Friday three members of the Causeway Judo Club will embark on their journey towards becoming coaches by taking the training for their level one BJA Judo Coaching award.

Chris Gaile, Marshall Craig and Mark Donald will spend three days in Belfast learning the fundamentals of coaching and instructing Judo both in theory and application.

Then once they have passed an assessment, they will be able to assist with the Judo training sessions at the Causeway Club to a UKCC (UK Coaching Certificate) standard.

Alan Ashscroft, head coach of the club, said: “Our club is constantly expanding so bringing on the three new coaches means we’ll really be able to tailor our training so that everyone will benefit from being involved in Judo across all levels.

“Whether you want to compete or just get fitter whilst learning Judo, we’ll be able to help old and new members get the most out of the sport and develop their skills.”

The training at the Causeway Club has recently stepped up as well for those members entering the Grading competition on 20 March in Carrickfergus.

The club will hope to add a few more black belts to its ranks with Mark Donald and Chris Gaile amongst those competing for it, with the other club members aiming to progress up the belt rankings.
