Trio of trophies just the ticket for Busmen

ULSTERBUS Eagles have steered their way to a hat-trick of trophies to end their season in top gear in the Larne and District Pool League (sponsored by Larne and District HPS).

The latest success was in last week’s GSG Cup final, in which they beat the holders, No1 Blues, 8-6.

The Blues took the first two frames, but Alan McKeown played a captain’s role to redress the balance and Ulsterbus won four in a row.

Faced with a 5-3 deficit, Blues men Eddie Hunter and young Lee Hogg hit back to level and Matt Connor edged them in front once more, going into the final session.

Ulsterbus player Jim Baxter was pivotal as they fared better and clinched a trio of frames and the trophy.

The pigeon club hosts the Premier Cup final tonight (Thursday, 8.15pm) to bring down the curtain on the season.

No1 Club, who are in a rich vein of form, play Station Bar who, in their first season back in the league, are playing at a competitive level on a weekly basis.

Tomorrow (Friday) night the league’s 27th annual presentation awards night takes place in the pigeon club.
