Trip of a lifetime for Holy Trinity pupils

ON the 18th March, 30 students and 3 teachers from Holy Trinity College head off for a week-long trip of a lifetime, to the Gulf resort of Dubai. The students are all elite athletes and are members of highly successful senior GAA teams from the school.

During their itinerary, they will coach Gaelic games, including Handball, to local pupils and participate in the Gulf Gaelic Games Tournament. This will give the pupils opportunities to link up with GAA teams from other countries and cultures.

Holy Trinity College accepted the invitation of the host club Dubai Celts GAA club to participate in their invitational Sevens tournament. This opportunity was too great to miss and will provide the pupils with an amazing opportunity to see at first hand one of the greatest cities in the World. The group will also attend a reception with the Irish Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

This exciting excursion was only made possible through the energetic fundraising efforts of pupils, parents, governors, local business, local GAA clubs and main sponsor, Steelweld of Cookstown and Holy Trinity wishes to express sincere gratitude to all involved.

The senior boys Gaelic football team recently collected their second Ulster Championship in a row and are now just one game away from playing in the All Ireland Vocational Schools Final in Croke Park. The majority of this team tasted success two years ago, when they won the All-Ireland title at Under 16 level.

Six of the panel are current Tyrone minors – one of the highest representations of all Tyrone schools. The week-long stay will serve as invaluable preparation as the lads will face Clonakilty College in the All-Ireland semi final at the end of the month.

The senior girls team were unfortunately knocked out of the U19 schools championships, but with the vast majority of the team still underage next year, success at Ulster level will not be far away. A number of the girls play for their senior club team and represent Tyrone at minor level.
