Trophies presented at bowls dinner

THE trophy winners in the Lisburn Indoor Bowling League received their prizes at the annual dinner in Lisburn Masonic Hall on Friday night.

They were handed over by League chairman, Harry Ewart and his wife and the recipients were; Section A, winner, Ballinderry; runner-up, Hillsborough Social; Section B, winner, Hilden; runner-up, Annahilt Parish; Section C, winner, St Clare’s A; runner-up, St Matthew’s Broomhedge.

Ulster Star bowls correspondent, Harry Allen, gave a run-down on the past season in which Ballinderry won the League for the 25th time in 26 years.

He finished by congratulating Nick Haire, Hillsborough Social, on winning the A International Series pairs with Fra Dillon and wished Raymond Stubbs good luck in his bid to win the singles and pairs at the National Championships. If he wins the singles this will complete a full set of medals.

The chairman thanked the caterers for providing a really excellent meal and everyone who came along to support the League.

On receiving the Shield on behalf of Hillsborough Social, Jean Hamilton re-iterated the chairman’s remarks and said the League was very enjoyable to play in. She said the Ballinderry record proved they were the best team in the League and also wished Raymond Stubbs good luck at the Nationals.

Stephen Mulholland handed over gifts to the main guests.
