Trout anglers competition

THE temperatures are up and so are the fish at Islandderry Fishery with anglers catching good quanties of fish over the weekend on buzzers.

Small black lures and buzzers were the favourite flys with a good number of trout around 6/7/8lb being caught.

Islandderry Trout Anglers held a friendly competition at the fishery on saturday between themselves and the Black Pennel fishing club.

The Black Pennels started off the day well with the youngest member Andrew Rea (15), being the first to weigh in a fish of 4lb2 to go towards the team bag weight.

Not to be outdone Islandderry Trout Anglers member Liam Brunty followed suit with a nice 4lb5 trout, followed by boat partner and team member Davy Thomson with a lovely trout of 6lb.

Matt & Ronnie McFadden from Islandderry landed two lovely trout weighing in at 6lb14 & 5lb while Black Pennels member Stevie Rea landed the biggest trout of the day weighing in at 7lb12.

The final result saw Islandderry Trout Anglers with a bag weight of 52lb2 to The Black Pennels bag weight of 36lb8.

Islandderry Trout Anglers would like to say a big thank you to the Black Pennels for putting up a team and look forward to the rematch! The next event at the fishery is the fifth round of the winter league on Saturday 23 February.
