Tuda is released

TUDA Murphy has become the first Glenavon player to leave the club in the close season.

Boss Marty Quinn is keen to ring the changes at Mourneview Park following a frustrating season and with a high wage will and a bunged squad-list, Murphy will not be the only one going through the exit door in the coming weeks.

“Tuda has been released and I’m speaking to another four, five or six players this week with a view to them moving on,” said Quinn.

“The only one that I’m prepared to announce who hasn’t had a contract renewed at the minute is Tuda but there are others who know about it and they want to speak to me again. I’ll be meeting players this week.”

Murphy’s departure means that youngster Gareth Buchanan is now the second choice keeper and Quinn is confident in his abilities but hasn’t ruled out another goalkeeper joining the club in the summer.

“I’ve Gareth Buchanan making great strides in the Reserves and I see him as our number two goalkeeper for the forthcoming season,” he began.

“In saying that I’m always interested in good players. We do know of one or two good goalkeepers out there and they’re not ruled out of the frame yet.

“Andy Plummer has certainly shown a marked improvement in our last four or five games. He’s been excellent for us but there are some wee things in his game that he has to work at. Hopefully we can get them sorted out.”

Quinn went on to hint at his January signings leaving the club as soon as this summer, claiming to have ‘made mistakes’ by signing ‘quick fixes’ to his squad’s problems.

“I’ll be the first to say that I made a couple of mistakes along the way,” he said.

“I’ve learned and I’ve learned quickly. At the time there were a few quick fixes required which I did but in hindsight maybe I should have sat back and persevered with what I had.”
